Root Canal Surgery Services in Midtown Atlanta
Root canal surgery, also known as apicoectomy or endodontic microsurgery, is a dental procedure that is used to treat problems with the roots of a tooth that cannot be resolved with a traditional root canal treatment. This procedure is typically done when the root of a tooth is infected or inflamed, but the infection cannot be cleared with a traditional root canal treatment, or if the tooth has developed a non-healing cyst or abscess.
During the procedure, the we make an incision in the gum tissue to expose the affected tooth, and then remove the infected or damaged portion of the root. The remaining healthy root will then be cleaned, disinfected and sealed. In some cases, we may place a small filling called a retrograde filling to seal the end of the root. Patients are informed to avoid the area until the stitches are removed around a week after the procedure.
Root canal surgery is considered a more complex procedure than a traditional root canal treatment and requires a skilled clinician.
